Who We are

We are men and women, young and not so young, pilots and non-pilots who all have one thing in common – we love just about everything associated with aviation and we want you to come join us. We believe that our community has much to contribute to aviation and that our presence there makes it even more fun than it is.

If you only think of the major airlines and the military as the world of aviation you are missing out on 80% of what flying is all about. That’s right, 80% of all the takeoffs and landings made in this country every day are not made by the airlines, they are made by folks like you in general aviation aircraft. Airplanes, gliders, helicopters, airships and hot air balloons are all a part of general aviation. It’s not a world reserved for the privileged or the few. It is a world welcoming those who are adventurous, dedicated and passionate and it is a lot more accessible than you might think.

What We Do

Throughout the year we have regular monthly meetings, happy hours, and flying events. Our pilot members fly planes to our flying events and we work hard to accommodate as many non-pilot passengers as we can usually asking only for a share of the expenses. In addition to our flying events, the third Friday of each month, we gather for happy hour at the Hideaway Club.

Each year in early April, RFPA sponsors its biggest event, Discover Flying Day. Last year over 40 people joined us at Love Field to experience the thrill of handling the controls of an airplane in flight. That’s right! For a $45 dollar contribution, you get to fly with a Flight Instructor in a single engine airplane. The instructor will show you how to handle the controls for some simple maneuvers and will demonstrate landings and takeoffs. Your time is entered into your own logbook and will count as training time if you decide to pursue flight lessons at a later time.
